Flyers look a much needed two points against the Caps
The Philadelphia Flyers will take a road trip to the nation's capital to take on the Washington Capitals. The Flyers need to get something going soon if they want to make the playoffs by the moves they made at the deadline will tell me otherwise. They were sellers at the deadline and typically sellers are not playoff contenders. But nonetheless the Flyers still have to put on their skates and play hockey.
The Capitals are currently sitting in first place in a tight race between the Penguins and Islanders. Now even though the Flyers are in sixth place, just four points out of a playoff spot. However the Flyers don't look like they have any fight left in this team. The Flyers suffered a 5-3 loss to Sabers, where the Flyers gave up 3 late goals in the third period.
This team doesn't have any fight in them but they are just on the cusp of the last playoff spot and they need to start scratching and clawing their way back into a playoff spot. It will be tough against the Capitals tonight, but they need to get it done.
The Flyers traded Micheal Raffl to Washington yesterday and received a 5th round pick for him. Raffl now adds to the depth Washington already has. Washington is getting a great player in Raffl and he just adds another level of depth to the Caps. Washington has a high powered offence that the Flyers need to contain. Washington's offence can score from all over the place as seen in their last game when they won 8-1. However they do tend to give up a lot of goals as well. The Flyers need to expose their defence to get the job done. I believe the Flyers will win this game by a score of 4-3 and get a much needed two points.
Players to watch:
For the Flyers my players to watch tonight are Claude Giroux and Kevin Hayes.
Claude Giroux is one of the leaders on this team and he needs to step up and put the team on his back. Giroux needs to bring his team together and will them to get to the playoffs. Giroux has a good track record against the Capitals and I look for him to have a multi goal night for the captain.
Kevin Hayes has been a little quiet over the past two weeks but I think he will break out of the rut he has been stuck in over the past 2 weeks. Hayes is a great player and he needs to be a leader in this team and wake up the team. He will be a factor in tonight's game against the Caps.
