The 76ers just wrapped up their game in Washington winning 117-96.
The Sixers started to look like themselves again as the team finally played up to our expectations. Players like Furkan Korkmaz, Tobias Harris found their groove tonight and played how they should be playing. Joel Embiid had another dominant night ending the game with 36 points.
Joel Embiid got off to a hot start scoring the Sixers first 8 points of the game. He finished the quarter with 13 points on 5-7 shooting. Matisse played great defense in the first quarter forcing a few steals. Daniel Gafford got in foul trouble in the first few minutes and had to be replaced by Montrezl Harrell who played well in the minutes he got tonight. As the first quarter came to an end the Sixers started to cool down and Washington really took advantage of it going on a 18-9 run to end the quarter.
Leading up to this game, Furkan Korkmaz was shooting 10% from 3 in the month of December. He found his groove in this quarter and ended the game with 14 points which is the most he's scored since November 22nd. Tobias looked really good and was scoring the ball efficiently in this quarter, ending the half with 15 points. The Sixers were getting bullied in transition and it seemed like the Wizards were getting anything they wanted. Montrezl Harrell ended the 1st half with 13 points.
Tobias Harris really kept his hot streak going, scoring a few threes and getting the ball down in the post and scoring that way. The entire Sixers team seemed to be getting into rhythm in this quarter on both sides of the court. Montrezl Harrell would get ejected this quarter due to two technical fouls in only a few minutes apart.
The Sixers were very consistent in the entire second half not letting Washington crawl back into this game. Philly kept a 20 point lead for most of the second half. Daniel Gafford got bullied the entire fourth quarter by Joel Embiid. It was a very rough night for Gafford as Embiid held him to only 7 points. The bench also came in late in this game, and played well. Also, congratulations to Myles Powell for scoring his first career NBA points.
My Takeaways From This Game:
The Sixers played very well as a team tonight. Tobias Harris finally played well and didn't seem to hold our offense back and let everyone else do their own thing. Joel Embiid had a dominant performance tonight scoring 36 points although being sick. Furkan Korkmaz seemed to slowly get back into his groove tonight. The Sixers were still missing Shake Milton, Andre Drummond and Danny Green. The Sixers finally played up to fans expectations and got a much needed win after a few bad losses in a row. This is a good sign for more things to come.
Tune in on Tuesday night as the 76ers travel to Toronto to take on the Raptors at 7:30.
